Clutter Clearing Perks Up Your Home

Clutter clearing is an important first step when it comes to a home design project. If you have piles of unorganized junk laying around you cannot hope to refresh the look of a room. You need to bring the family into this project, remove the junk from rooms and put rules in place so that it doesn’t re-accumulate. A more organized household is a more efficient and productive one.

To maintain an organized form, you should schedule frequent clutter clearing sessions. Do not fall into the trap of moving something from one area to another but get rid of things that you no longer need or use. The trick to maintain a clutter free home is to immediately put things in their proper place. Use organizer or decorative storage containers for your little items that get frequent usage.

Before clutter clearing begins, label four boxes with signs that read Keeping, Giving Away, Throwing Out and Not Sure. Keep family heirlooms or items used often. Give away clothes, toys, electronics and items that no longer have a function in your home to charity or sell at a yard sale. Throw out anything that is ripped or broken. For things youre not sure about, consider how often you use the item, whether its function is valuable to you, or its sentimental value. If you cant find a purpose for it, move it to the giving away category.

You will find a lot more space when you have completed your clutter clearing project. All those recipe clippings should be placed in a decorative box or a binder and this is much more practical than stuffing them in a drawer, where they fall out of the back into oblivion. Recycle a broken computer rather than letting it gather dust in a room. If you take an objective look around the house, you can get tough with your decisions as to what stays and what goes.

Clutter clearing is especially valuable in your bedroom and clothes closet. Clothing, accessories and shoes that are rarely worn on no longer fit should be thrown out. Look in your nightstand drawers unnecessary stuff that can also be removed.

One of the most used rooms in the house is the bathroom and it is always in need of clutter clearing. The room can look very messy if unused personal hygiene items are allowed to pile up in the corner. Whilst you are at it, discard any medicine or items that may have expired and all old makeup items. Each family member should have a designated door, within which they can put their stuff, to keep shelves and closets free of clutter.

The kitchen is one of the rooms in the house where clutter clearing is essential. Focus on the countertops and remove items that are not part of the rooms function. Take time to organize closets, cabinets and drawers and remove mismatched or never used items.

With a plan of action, clutter clearing does not have to be time consuming or exhausting. Depending on how much stuff has accumulated over time, you might want to set aside one day a week to do one room at a time. This way it wont seem so overwhelming having to tackle the whole house in one day.
